The Modern Tarot Reader
For many of you who are already tarot deck collectors, you may recall (or even ‘own’ if you’re lucky) a beautiful indie deck created by the amazing Claire Goodchild (her business is called ‘Black and The Moon’) called The Antique Anatomy Tarot. This deck has now evolved into this mass market offering called ‘The Modern Tarot Reader’ (this is the UK mass market version of the deck - the US mass market version is still called The Antique Anatomy Tarot….just in case you were wondering!).
I can’t tell you how over the moon I am to be able to offer this beautiful deck as part of the MoonAmaia deck collection. Wow wow wow! I don’t think the indie version of this deck was available when I eventually found out about it, but honestly, having this mass market version is just as awesome.
If you know me, you know I love everything skull, skeleton, bones related (things a little on the darker side). But I also love colour, brightness, floral accents (hello lighter side!). So this deck is right up my alley. A wonderful combination of both. The card illustrations are amazing - they are intuitively wonderful for reading and a feast for the eyes. The card stock is quite thin (many have mentioned this) so be gentle with your deck. However, I do find the thin card stock makes it very easy to shuffle (the deck isn’t too bulky and it makes riffle shuffling really easy to do) and as long as you’re careful, the cards should stay ‘healthy’ for a while.
The guidebook is so good as well - if you’re new to tarot reading, this guidebook has all the information you need to start as a beginner. Claire’s writing style is easy to read and understand and I often feel like I’m being ‘looked after’ and gently educated when I read her guidebooks. The card interpretations are wonderful, the card illustrations are in colour - honestly, I could rave about this guidebook all day.
The cards and guidebook come in a lovely box - so you can keep them safe and dust free on your altar or book shelf or bedside table.
This has turned into a bit of a review (yikes!) which if it was, I would be giving this deck at least a 10/10 rating. At least. Rave review over ha ha - here is the official blurb for this wonderful set.
