Anatomize Oracle
This unique and eye catching oracle deck is such a pleasure to own. The colours, detailed illustrations and thoughtful card interpretations combine to provide a satisfying experience of learning, art appreciation and connection. The cards feel great to work with and I like the slightly larger than usual size for these cards.
This version that is available for purchase via MoonAmaia is the first edition of the deck.
This talented deck creator (Bethan Hamilton) has also produced the wonderful Monochromatica Tarot Tarot deck which is also available on the MoonAmaia website.
See below for a bit more detail about the deck outlined by the deck creator (via the original Kickstarter project for this deck);
_____
The Anatomize Oracle is a 39 card deck featuring hand drawn and hand painted Oracle card designs. Inspired by the practice of human anatomical study and the cultural philosophy of medicine.
Each individual card design starts out as a detailed anatomical pen drawing on A4 paper, drawn in a graphic pointillist style. Then a unique watercolour wash is hand painted for each card background. The drawing and the watercolour wash are both then photographed, scaled down and layered, to form a completed card design.
Throughout the process of developing the Anatomize Oracle as a divination tool the deck creator was interested in exploring the varied cultural and scientific theories behind the mind-body connection. They conducted research into subjects such as;
Medieval medicine, Humorism & Hippocratic medicine.
Monism vs. dualism & the 'mind-body problem'.
Traditional Chinese & Western medicines.
The Chakra system and esoteric traditions in Hinduism.
The drawings were inspired by Victorian anatomical study and 21st Century medical illustration, and the backgrounds inspired by research into colour psychology.
Their research into traditional Chinese holistic medicine specifically, greatly informed the creation of the Anatomize Oracle. The theory that mental and physical well-being are intricately entwined. Viewing physical symptoms/indicators as a way to assess and address the physical and emotional imbalances within the body, recognizing the body as one interconnected biosystem.
The Anatomize Oracle is divided into six categories, each with an overarching theme.
The Musculoskeletal System - STRENGTH
The Cardiovascular & Respiratory System - CONNECTION
The Digestive & Urinary System - JUDGEMENT
The Nervous System & The Senses - CURIOSITY
The Immune & Lymphatic System - PROTECTION
The Endocrine & Reproductive System - POTENTIAL
Every card has associated key words and a short paragraph to aid with readings.
While time and care has been put into constructing the Anatomize Oracle system, Oracle decks are often selected for their ambiguous nature. Readers are invited to use the guidebook or to conduct their reading using visual cues alone. Whatever works for you!
Deck Specifications:
The cards are 84 x 119mm / 3.3 x 4.68in with 39 cards in the deck.
The cards are printed on 350gsm card stock (FSC Mix Credit CU-COC-822090 - a mix of certified sustainably sourced and managed pulp products, this reduces the need for bleaching and other chemical processes used on 100% recycled papers).
Cards are sealed on both sides to protect them from handling etc.
All decks are supplied in a tuck box, with a printed design on 350gsm card stock and a 50 page, printed paper guidebook.
