Turning Terrestrial Tides Tarot

NZ$70.00

We all have our favourite people on social media - people who have integrity, are articulate, intelligent and seem to have a knack for producing amazing things while also showing their humanity and personality. Sara Calvarese is one of these people - owner of The 8th House in the US, an amazing astrologist and knowledgeable tarot guru, and someone who I look forward to seeing posts and content from online - always on point, always researched and articulate. Always entertaining!

Sara has created a number of divination decks, but when I saw her posts showing the creation of this deck, I knew it would be one that I would need to back on Kickstarter.
I get a very raw and honest vibe from this deck - it is almost visceral when you use it, it feels like a zine (a call to action), like you’re being educated/informed and entertained at the same time. The 90’s vibe is most welcome too.

The cards use unique names for the court cards and for the minor arcana suits (noted on the inside of the box) and the card interpretations are excellent - not the standard interpretations you often see with many decks. They offer a different flavour, encouraging food for thought and perhaps, if you’re a seasoned reader, presenting a new perspective which I absolutely love.

The deck is a smaller sized deck (poker deck size?), but given the punch it packs, the size is not something you notice, although it is cute and a good size for travel. The box is robust (the satisfying slide of the boxes when you first open it), the guidebook focuses on what’s important (no fluff) and fits in the box and the green aesthetic (green card edging, heck yes!) actually just tops off what I think is a deck I will be using often and enthusiastically. The tides are turning….

From the PM Press website (publishers of this deck):

We’re in turbulent times. The US is experiencing its first Pluto Return, and Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are all set to move into new zodiac signs in the near future.

The astrology suggests that we’re collectively standing on the precipice of a major shift here on Earth. So, how do we use this astrological energy of change to our advantage? The 78 tarot archetypes invite us to self-reflect and entertain curiosity around designing our future within our larger communities. During these times of intense transformation, tarot can act as both a mirror and an anchor for personal empowerment, reminding us that we write our tomorrow. This DIY quality is reflected in the Turning Terrestrial Tides Tarot artwork. The travel-friendly, poker-sized deck was created in the approachable cut-and-paste collage style of 90s zines and includes the astrological linkages to each tarot archetype as well as words to reflect on, both on the cards and within the included mini guidebook.
